This sample pack is a collection of sounds recorded from a pair of reel-to-reel tape machines. The two Studer A807’s are instrumental in the preservation and digitisation of at risk audio archives scattered across museums, libraries, and archives in the North West of England.
The North West Sound Heritage Hub is based in Manchester Central Library, where machines run around the clock in an effort to preserve these soon to be lost materials detailing an rich culture of audio across the district. The project is supported by the British Library and by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Operational sounds were recorded with omnidirectional, contact, and electromagnetic microphones, cataloguing a diverse array of sound materials. We hope that these sounds help to inspire creativity and curiosity in the future.
